2009-01-11 - Winter 09 - Photography Challenge Announced

Category: White

Yes, white is a colour. It actually comes in many shades of colour as every self respecting Canadian or house painter knows. Here in the season of snow and ice, take your best image that illustrates the colour "white". And don't forget about contrasting white with all those other colours that might pop up.

Category: What's for Dinner?

There is a whole industry built around taking pictures of food. Whether those appetizing desserts at the high end restaurant or the 40 foot billboard hyping the latest cholesterol laden heart-stopping burger, food pictures sell. Many of us can lose a few pounds after the holidays, so here is your chance. What's healthier for you then eating food? Taking pictures of food! Take pictures of other people eating food. Make a plate and take pictures before you eat it. Go on, you know you want to take more than one!

Category: Nature In and Out

Lots of people think about nature in the spring, summer or fall, but how about lonely winter? It's still out there, may even be in your house. Anything natural, (not human made) is fair game. Capture the natural world in winter. Could be a trip to Parc Omega, could be your favorite house plant. Show us your vision of Mother Nature in Canada's showcase season.

2008-10-11 - October 2008 - Club Meeting

If the meeting from last month is any indication of the level of participation that we can expect, then we are in for a great year. The diversity of photos shared at the meeting was very impressive and will certainly raise the bar in capturing creative photographs.

The main purpose of the club is to provide a meeting place for like minded individuals to share ideas and learn from one another. The best way to achieve this is through the comments received at the show and tell session that is part of each club meeting. Remember that there is no such thing as a bad photograph; as each photo helps us become better photographers and what better way to learn than from our own photos.

To submit photos for the members show and tell, ensure that the longest side does not exceed 720 pixels including borders and frames. Save the file as a JPEG format and keep its size to around 250 KB. Send your re-sized photos to Diane Pilon and she will upload them to the club’s laptop before the meeting. Always bring a back-up of the submitted photos with you to the meeting just in case we did not receive your email.

Paul Downing has prepared a survey to help in selecting activities for the club meetings. Results from the survey will be discussed at the meeting.

This month’s presenters are Eric Charlebois, our web master, and Paul Downing, our program director. Together, they will discuss the benefits of shooting RAW and the different types of file formats used to save your final photos. Part of their presentation will be the advantages and disadvantages of each file type, as well as the different software available to convert camera RAW files.

Until the opening of the Shenkman Arts Centre in May 2009, our meeting location will be moving around due to space availability. Our next two meeting (Oct &Nov) will be held at the Bob MacQuarrie - Hall ‘C’ which is located at the bottom of the stairs in front of the sport service desk.
